About The Book

“You Had a Good Home, But You Left…” is scheduled to release in late fall.

The book is the unforgettable true story of one man’s solo flight around the world—a sacred mission to honor the fallen and carry the stories of those who never return home from war. With nothing but his plane, his faith, and an enduring sense of duty, Congressman Steve Pearce, while still serving in office, set out on a pilgrimage, circling the globe to pay tribute to warriors who sacrifice so much.

But his journey is more than a memorial—it’s a personal reckoning, of finally coming face to face with the residue of war that had laid untended through his years.

Pearce, a decorated Vietnam pilot, explores the often-unspoken truth of what it means to come home from war: the internal battles, the search for meaning, and the longing to make one’s service count. Through the vast silence of the sky and sacred ground of memorials across continents, he reflects on the warrior’s journey, the deep foundation of faith, and the love that gives meaning to it all.

Through his journey, he discovered that everyone is striving to get to this one place we call home but the reality is that it is just a waypoint. To experience the fullness of life we will make a good home then we must leave it and get out into the storms. Life is out there in the tumult, in the turbulence where we are helping others survive and we are being helped. That is what love looks like.

Pearce, recounts his experience, where overcoming fear became the continuing drum-beat of his life, where every new challenge required “leaving the comfort of home” and launching into uncertainty and the next challenge. To do less results in stagnation, unsavory in ponds, unthinkable in life

Risking security, he left a good job and bought a small business.

When that was established, profitable and enjoyable, he left the comforts of that life to run for political office.

Firmly established in the halls of Congress, he risked all to fly around the world, his odyssey to discover meaning of suffering and purpose in life.

Pearce weaves in the importance of knowing truth when we face the storms with only our wits, faith, courage, grit and an unshakeable tenacity to never, never give up.

At its heart, You Had a Good Home, But You Left… is a story of legacy, hope, and healing. It reminds us that home isn’t just a place—it’s the people, the purpose, acceptance, and the promise we carry with us long after our battles (whether internal or external) end.

Day 1

Shows flying over 6 hours toward hawaii, arriving at the point of no return. Knowing i did not have enough gas to make it to Hawaii, I had to turn around and return to California...

Day 2

Honolulu to Honolulu. I got about 4-5 hours south of Hawaii and the engine sputtered to a stop in the air. After getting it started, i returned to Hawaii to get the problem filled

The beginning of the round the world trip was fraught with difficulties. Only a life long reliance on Grit kept me going.
