Congressman Pearce understands that truly honoring our veterans—remembering their lives and legacies, acknowledging everything they have sacrificed, and supporting them in the aftermath of their service—isn’t just an option. It is a sacred duty we share as citizens of this country. You Had a Good Home, But You Left… is a moving tribute to the men and women who served and sacrificed and never made it home.

"What a story. I felt like I was constantly inside Steve’s mind  in a very close discussion on how he was going to die quietly or  ...or stay alive loudly, thinking what I would say sitting right next to him at every critical moment , knowing how important it is  to believe in strength of mind , not just body any longer , wondering  page by page how and if he is going to make it..., yes, right there in the cockpit with him. Steve’s story can never be duplicated. I was so pulled into his life for one beautiful intimate journey that I would never attempt myself, always feeling I was sharing his dream but maybe sharing much more than that."

You Had a Good Home, But You Left… reminds us that honoring our country’s veterans requires more than a ceremony. It requires action, remembrance, and ongoing service. Steve Pearce’s memoir speaks to a deeper truth: service doesn’t end when the uniform is removed—it lives on in how we remember, care, and lift each other up, and in the community we build by doing so.

You Had a Good Home, But You Left… is more than a memoir from a former combat veteran and Congressman. It’s a call to action. Steve Pearce honors those who never came home from war and implores each of us to remember those who did. His story challenges each of us to ensure our heroes—those who sacrificed their bodies, minds, and souls to protect us—are never forgotten, ignored, or left behind.

Former Congressman Steve Pearce’s memoir reminds us that “home” is more than a place—it’s a sense of belonging that so many of our veterans struggle to reclaim after their service and sacrifice to our country. While his journey around the world is a memorial to those who have sacrificed themselves in service to our country, it’s also a heartfelt plea to welcome our heroes back with love, honor, and above all, support.

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney

This memoir is a powerful tribute to the enduring spirit of service. Not just in combat, but in how we live, remember, and contribute to our communities. With a profound respect and clarity shaped by his years as a combat veteran and Congressman, Pearce honors our fallen soldiers and speaks directly to the silent struggles many veterans carry with them long after their service is over.

I have assisted with forty plus around the world flights since 1984. Aircraft ranging from single engine pistons to turbine twins. Each flight brings its own set of challenges. Steve presented me with his plan of action. He had to work to a very tight schedule due to work commitments. En-route he had to contend with bureaucracy flying westbound against strong winds and long flying days with little rest. This trip certainly kept me on my toes and Steve is to be congratulated for his tenacity. I was delighted to have been involved.
